We continue our previous post with more tips on how to make your app rock!
Go Intuitive!
As you go along with creating your app design, make sure you always, and we mean always, keep your users in mind. When it comes to mobile and, overall, the digital environment, good UX makes all the difference in the world! So make sure you keep your app:
intuitive
functional
simple
friendly
A good tip in this respect is to test your UI first-handedly, then proceed with designing the rest of your app. Make sure you check out the UI conventions, they can help you a great deal: iOS Human Interface Guidelines, Android User Interface Guidelines. With the help of mock-ups, prototypes, or even simple html pages, you can check out how intuitive or counter-intuitive your app really is, then decide what’s your next step, instead realising at the end of the design process that it didn’t turn out as it should have.
Content Is King
Today’s society receptors are all about visual keys, but that doesn’t allow you to forget about the importance of content. Simple and powerful words, smart catchphrases and call to actions attract the user and make him stay longer than fancy imagery with no strong, engaging content. Think about it this way: a nicely designed app without quality content is like a beautiful cake with no actual taste.
It’s your decision (or the apps’nature) whether you import content or generate it yourself. Keep in mind that the content can drastically change the parameters of your app in terms of size, so you might as well figure out if you’re going to embed content or create custom one even before starting the design. It will make the process a lot easier!
The Icon – Your App**’**s Mirror To The World
Think about how your favourite apps look on the screen of your phone, then think about how you want your app to look like and how your user would like it. Chances are you’ve started thinking about the icon from the moment you had the app idea, but with all the planning, designing and implementation, you’re product may now be looking completely different from what you’ve envisioned it in the first place.
Like in everything else UX worthy, simple, yet powerful is the right answer for this issue. The icon has to be the most memorable part of your app’s visual components. A very important detail: make sure it looks good enlarged as well.
